Comments: Broadleaf evergreen, native to Mediterranean area where some are over 1,000 years old. Brought from Mediterranean lands to Mission gardens for ornament and oil by Franciscan Fathers. The tree's character develops with age with the trunks often becoming gnarled and twisted.
